About This Tour

A private tour for your group only, to 3 real Provence wine estates, with genuine vintner introductions. This is a private tour for your group only. Real stops include 3 Provence wine estates, with genuine opportunities to meet the vintners.

Provence is one of the oldest wine-growing regions in France. Greek settlers from Massalia (modern Marseille) planted the first vines here around the 6th century BC, making this the country's earliest wine-producing region, and the Romans expanded cultivation after founding Provincia Romana in 154 BC — so thoroughly that Rome's own Senate briefly restricted Provençal wine exports around 120 AD to protect Italian producers.

By the Middle Ages, Provence wines were prestigious enough to appear on the tables of kings and popes, and the region recovered — slowly — after the phylloxera blight devastated European vineyards in the late 19th century. Today the appellation most associated with this stretch of countryside is Côtes de Provence, known above all for its pale, dry rosé.

This private day visits three of those real working estates, with genuine opportunities to meet the people actually growing the grapes and making the wine — a more direct, personal look at Provençal winemaking than a single-stop tasting room can offer.
