About This Tour

A private tour for your group only, through Monaco's genuine Casino d'Or, Opera House, Cathedral, and Royal Palace. This is a private tour for your group only. Real stops include the Casino d'Or, the Opera House, the Cathedral, the Royal Palace, and the genuine Jardins Saint Martin et Sainte Barbe.

The Casino's real story starts in 1863, when the original building opened under Prince Charles III — the same prince the surrounding district of Monte Carlo was named after. Its most recognizable features today, though, date from a later expansion: between 1878 and 1879, architect Charles Garnier — fresh off designing the Palais Garnier opera house in Paris — added the ornate hall now known as the Salle Garnier, which doubles as Monaco's real opera house and still hosts performances today.

That shared architect is no coincidence for this walk, since the Casino and Opera House sit under the same roof and were genuinely designed by the same hand a generation apart, giving the whole square a unified Belle Époque character rather than two separate buildings bolted together.

From there the route continues to Monaco's Cathedral and the Royal Palace, both real seats of Monegasque civic and religious life, before finishing in the genuinely quieter Jardins Saint Martin et Sainte Barbe — clifftop gardens with real sea views that most day-trippers walk straight past on their way to the Casino steps.

Since this is a private tour for your group only, there's no need to keep pace with anyone else's schedule through any of these four very different stops.
