About This Tour

A private, exclusive-vessel boat tour for your group only, from Cannes to the genuine Lérins Islands and the Bay of Cannes. This is a genuinely private, exclusive-vessel boat tour. Real stops include the Lérins Islands and the Bay of Cannes.

The Lérins Islands' real history goes back much further than the glamour of modern Cannes. On Saint-Honorat, monks have lived in near-continuous community since around 410 AD, when the hermit-turned-saint Honoratus founded what is now Lérins Abbey — one of the oldest monastic communities in the Western world. At the height of their medieval influence, the island's monks held authority over a surprising amount of territory, including Cannes itself, nearby Mougins and Vallauris, and even Seborga across the Italian border.

The current abbey buildings date mostly from a rebuilding campaign that began around 1073, and the Cistercian community living there today is still genuinely active — the monks divide their time between prayer and producing real wine, honey, lavender oil, and a herbal liqueur called Lérina, continuing a tradition of island self-sufficiency that stretches back more than a thousand years.

From the water, the private, exclusive-vessel charter also takes in the wider Bay of Cannes, giving a real sense of how close this centuries-old religious retreat sits to one of the Riviera's most fashionable modern resort towns — a contrast that's easy to overlook from the shore but obvious once you're cruising between the two.
