About This Tour

A private tour for your group only, driven in a real 1968 Triumph, with a genuine picnic-with-champagne option. This is a private tour for your group only, in a real 1968 Triumph. A genuine picnic-with-champagne option is available along the Riviera coastline.

The French Riviera's reputation as a destination for leisurely, scenic driving goes back further than the automobile itself. British aristocrats began wintering along this coast in the late 18th century, fleeing cold northern winters, and by the mid-19th century the region had become what's often called the birthplace of high-class European tourism — a status cemented once a railway line connected the coast to the rest of Europe and grand hotels and casinos followed.

The coast road itself has real military origins. The highest of the three parallel roads linking Nice to Menton, the Grande Corniche, was built on Napoleon's own orders between 1802 and 1806, following the route of the ancient Roman Via Augusta along the ridgeline — a strategic route designed to avoid more exposed coastal approaches. The middle road, the Moyenne Corniche, came much later, built between 1910 and 1928, while the lower Basse Corniche hugs the water itself, linking small resort towns and coves.

Riding chauffeur-driven in a genuine 1968 Triumph along this same stretch of coastline — whether on the aristocratic seafront or up onto one of the historic corniche roads — puts your private tour directly on routes with a real, documented two-century history of exactly this kind of leisurely, scenic travel.
