Valhalla Provincial Park was established on 3 March 1983 on the western side of Slocan Lake, covering most of the Valhalla Ranges of the Selkirk Mountains, about 49,893 hectares with 30 kilometres of lake shoreline. Local mountaineering and wilderness groups campaigned for its protection.
The park has large high-elevation lakes such as Evans Lake and Beatrice Lake among castellated peaks, and is home to grizzly and black bears and mountain goats. Much of it is hard to reach on foot, which is why a flight is a rare view.
