The Johnny Cash Museum opened in May 2013 at 119 3rd Avenue South, downtown. It was founded by Bill Miller, who had been collecting memorabilia for more than forty years, and it is officially authorized by Cash's estate.
It describes itself as holding the world's largest collection of Johnny Cash memorabilia, including a stone wall taken from his lake house in Hendersonville. Early plans called for more than 1,000 items, among them a high-school report card, a dining room set from his home with June Carter Cash, and handwritten lyrics.
At roughly 90 minutes with a guide, the museum is manageable without feeling rushed, and the artifacts tell a story that is as much about family and faith as about the music.
