Montevideo's Rambla is a coastal promenade of about 22 kilometres that follows the shoreline from the port through Parque Rodó, Pocitos and Carrasco. It is often described as the longest continuous sidewalk in the world, and it was designed in the 1920s as a coastal road and beautification project.
Parque del Prado, in contrast, is a 19th-century green space dating to 1873. Its Rosedal contains four pergolas, eight domes and a fountain, with the rose collection planted in the early 1910s.
The optional mate add-on is a good fit for this city: Uruguayans carry a thermos and gourd everywhere, and the country is widely cited for having some of the highest mate consumption per person anywhere.
