About This Tour
See the headquarters of Uruguay's Executive, Judicial, and Legislative powers, the Agricultural Market, Estadio Centenario, and a former quarry reborn as a waterfall lake, with a private local guide. A private, high-end city loop starting in the original Montevideo area, crossing where the old city wall once stood, and continuing into the city's three main squares and seats of government.
The Legislative Palace was built between 1904 and 1925 and inaugurated on 25 August 1925 to mark the centenary of the Declaration of Independence. Its architects were Vittorio Meano and Gaetano Moretti, and its neoclassical form makes it one of the city's most imposing buildings.
Estadio Centenario was built in 1929 and 1930 to host the first FIFA World Cup, in a famously short construction time, and hosted the final on 30 July 1930 when Uruguay beat Argentina 4-2. In 1983 FIFA named it the first Historical Monument of World Football.
The Mercado Agrícola de Montevideo was built between 1906 and 1913 to a design by architects Antonino Vázquez and Silvio Geranio and reopened in 2013 as a food hall. The quarry lake in Parque Rodó, described on the tour as a waterfall lake, sits within an old stone quarry in the park.
