Lakeshore State Park is a 22-acre park on Lake Michigan and Wisconsin's only urban state park, with restored prairie and a pebble beach. It is a man-made peninsula beside downtown, which is why it feels both wild and part of the city at once.
The Reiman Pedestrian Bridge, a cable-stayed footbridge, spans Lincoln Memorial Drive and connects the Milwaukee Art Museum on the lakeshore with the downtown side by way of O'Donnell Park, so crossing it is the natural link between the museum and the rest of the walk.
The Art Museum's Quadracci Pavilion, completed in October 2001 to a Santiago Calatrava design, has a moveable sunscreen of 72 steel fins that opens to a wingspan of about 217 feet in the day and folds at night or in bad weather, so the building looks different depending on when you arrive.
