Riding between stops lets this tour cover more of Milwaukee than a walk could. Lakefront Brewery, whose story began when its founders sold their first barrel of beer on December 2, 1987 from a former bakery on East Chambers Street before moving to its present North Commerce Street home in 1998, represents the city's craft revival rather than its old industrial giants.
Black Cat Alley on the East Side is a free, open-to-the-public mural corridor that began in 2016 through the artist-led group Wallpapered City; murals are semi-permanent and typically stay up for about three to five years, so what you see on a given visit may differ from earlier photos.
Villa Terrace, perched on a bluff above Lake Michigan, was designed by architect David Adler in the early 1920s for the Lloyd R. Smith family in the style of an Italian Renaissance villa, its water stairs inspired by Villa Cicogna Mozzoni in Lombardy. It is a surprising contrast to the lakefront museum and arena also on the route.
