Olivicola LAUR's own story goes back to 1889, when Francisco Laur planted olive groves in Maipu that are still bearing fruit today — one of the trees, known as "Libertad," is counted among the eleven centenary olive trees recognized across the Americas. Today the Millan family-run company produces more than 500 tons of oil a year, drawing on its own Maipu groves as well as growers in neighboring San Juan province, and it has pushed Argentine olive oil onto a genuinely global stage: LAUR became the first producer outside Europe to reach number one in the EVOO World Ranking, a feat it has repeated for multiple years running, outscoring long-established oil regions in Spain, Italy, and Greece. It also holds the official Geographic Indication seal for Extra Virgin Olive Oil of Mendoza, recognizing the specific growing conditions behind its character.
The lunch stop pairs with a winery and restaurant most commonly known as Casa Vigil, built by Alejandro Vigil — long the chief winemaker behind Catena Zapata, one of Mendoza's most important producers — together with Adrianna Catena. The project behind it, El Enemigo, began as an idea the two sketched out along the River Thames in London in 2009: a Bordeaux-leaning red built around Cabernet Franc rather than the Malbec most visitors associate with Mendoza. The winery sits on Vigil's own family property in Chachingo, just outside Maipu, with its Michelin-recognized restaurant built right alongside the cellar.
Pairing these two stops gives the day a genuinely different focus from Mendoza's typical wine-only circuit — a world-ranked olive oil producer in the morning, then a modern, internationally recognized wine project for lunch, both within the same Maipu wine region and both run as a single private day with your own driver throughout.
