About This Tour
A private tour for your group only, with a real pay-only-for-the-tastings-you-want model, finishing at the genuine Yarra Valley Chocolaterie. This is a private tour for your group only, with a genuinely flexible pay-only-for-what-you-taste model. Real stops finish at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie.
The Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery, where this tour finishes, began in 2012 when husband-and-wife duo Ian and Leanne Neeland — neither of whom had any prior chocolate-making experience — decided to turn a Yarra Valley property into a dedicated chocolate destination. The pair, originally from Perth, reportedly considered California's Napa Valley as a location at one stage before settling on Victoria, and had to work through early opposition from the local council before the site could be built.
What started as a single property has since grown into a small group of destinations: a second Chocolaterie opened along the Great Ocean Road in 2016, and a third in Flinders on the Mornington Peninsula in 2018. That kind of genuine expansion is a reasonable sign the original Yarra Glen site is a real, ongoing food-tourism business rather than a one-off tourist gimmick.
The tour's pay-only-for-what-you-taste structure suits a region with this much genuine variety in it — rather than being locked into one operator's fixed tasting flight, you choose which cellar doors actually interest your group, then finish the day at a destination, the Chocolaterie, that's worth the stop on its own merits.
