About This Tour
A private full-day trip to Jardin, a real Antioquian town whose name means 'garden,' with stops for coffee plantations, waterfalls, trout farms, and local snacks like cheese bread and empanadas along the way. Jardín, in southwest Antioquia, was founded on 23 May 1863 and is a coffee town whose main plaza is surrounded by brightly painted houses. Its Basílica Menor de la Inmaculada Concepción was built between 1918 and 1949 with a neo-Gothic façade, and was declared a national monument in 1987 and raised to the rank of Basilica Menor in 2003.
Just outside town, the Gallito de la Roca nature reserve is known for the Andean cock-of-the-rock, a bright red bird whose courtship displays are best seen early or late in the day. The nearby Cueva del Esplendor, a cave with a waterfall pouring through its ceiling, is a trek of about three hours from town, so confirm with your guide what is included.
The drive is long, but the result is a calm town that shows a less-visited side of Antioquia.
