The Marinka waterfall is one of the best known near Minca and is described as a two-tiered cascade, with one drop above the other and a pool where visitors commonly swim. It is fed by streams coming off the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, which at about 42 km from the coast is often called the highest coastal mountain range in the world.
The park around Minca belongs to the Sierra Nevada biosphere reserve (UNESCO, 1979), a mountain with nearly every climate zone from tropical forest to snow. That range of habitats is why birdwatchers also base themselves in Minca.
A Museo del Cacao stop adds the cultural side. Cacao-growing in these mountains is tied to the Indigenous communities of the Sierra Nevada, including the Arhuaco, who are known for organic cacao and coffee grown at altitude.
