About This Tour

A private tour for your group only — a genuine, extended 3-hour exploration of the V&A's real design and decorative arts collection. This is a private tour for your group only, over a genuine extended 3-hour format. The V&A's real design and decorative arts collection is explored in depth.

After opening in 1852 at Marlborough House and briefly relocating to Somerset House, the museum found its permanent home on Exhibition Road in South Kensington in 1857 — for more than 40 years afterward it was simply known as the South Kensington Museum. It only took on its current name in 1899, renamed in honour of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, whose personal involvement in organizing the 1851 Great Exhibition had set the whole project in motion.

The decorative arts and design collection built up since then is genuinely vast — one of the largest of its kind anywhere — covering centuries of furniture, fashion, ceramics, and craftsmanship from Britain and well beyond.

A full 3-hour format gives real room to move at depth through galleries that a shorter visit would have to skip, letting your private guide connect specific objects back to the museum's original 1851 mission of celebrating design and craft, rather than rushing a condensed highlights list.
