About This Tour

The Crown & Anchor, Ted's local pub in the show, is really The Prince's Head — a genuine pub on Richmond Green that's been serving drinks for roughly 300 years. Only its exterior appears on screen; the interior scenes were shot on a studio set elsewhere, so walking up to the real building is as close as you'll get to the inside of 'Ted's local' without actually ordering a pint.
Richmond Green itself has history that long predates the show by centuries. It once hosted jousting tournaments for the royal household at Richmond Palace, the residence Henry VII built after a 1498 Christmas fire destroyed the earlier manor at Sheen — the palace that gave the whole area its name, after the earldom Henry held before winning the throne at Bosworth Field in 1485. Little of the Tudor palace survives today beyond a few fragments converted into private housing, but the Green where the jousts once took place is the same open space Ted walks across to work.
