The Amy Winehouse statue in Camden's Stables Market is a genuinely recent landmark — sculptor Scott Eaton's life-size bronze was unveiled on 14 September 2014, what would have been her 31st birthday. At 175cm, it shows her signature beehive and Star of David necklace, and it was deliberately moved from its originally planned spot on a Roundhouse balcony to the market itself specifically so fans could actually reach it, rather than view it from a distance.
David Bowie's connection to London runs through a much smaller, easier-to-miss address: 23 Heddon Street, just off Regent Street, where photographer Brian Ward shot the cover of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars on 13 January 1972. Ward had already taken 17 frames in his upstairs studio before persuading Bowie to step outside into the alley for the shot that became the album cover — later hand-colored by artist Terry Pastor. A commemorative plaque was installed there in 2012, unveiled by fellow musician Gary Kemp of Spandau Ballet.
