About This Tour

A private tour for your group only — real tastings through Borough Market, Soho, and the East End's genuine food scenes. This is a private tour for your group only. Real tastings take you through Borough Market, Soho, and the East End's genuine, diverse food scenes.

Borough Market's own claim to its origins reaches back to 1014, and documented records show grain, fish, vegetables, and cattle already being traded in Southwark — London's oldest suburb — by that date, with the first formal mention of a dedicated fruit-and-vegetable market following in 1276. By the 18th century the market had outgrown its site so badly that Parliament actually ordered it closed in 1755; local residents raised £6,000 to buy a small plot known as The Triangle and reopen it there, which is substantially the same ground the market still occupies today, in buildings dating mainly from the 1850s.

Soho and the East End add a completely different, far more recent layer of culinary history — decades of successive immigrant communities, from Huguenot silk weavers to Jewish, Bangladeshi, and Chinese arrivals, each leaving a distinct food culture behind that the neighborhood never fully lets go of, which is exactly why a single tasting walk through both areas covers such genuinely different ground in one afternoon.
