London, Ontario, was named by John Graves Simcoe in 1793 when he proposed the site as the capital of Upper Canada, along with the Thames River that runs through it. He first suggested Georgiana, after King George III, before settling on the names borrowed from England.
Covent Garden Market, the stop in the middle of this evening walk, first opened its doors on November 1, 1845, and the right to build a market had been granted a decade earlier. It was designed to connect rural producers with the growing town and has been a downtown fixture since.
An evening food walk is a relaxed way to see the city's downtown after the office crowds thin out. Pace is leisurely, and the tasting stops are chosen for variety, so tell your guide in advance about dietary needs.
