About This Tour

A private tour for your group only, departing directly from Heathrow — a genuine 5-hour London layover experience. This is a private tour for your group only, departing directly from Heathrow. A genuine 5-hour format allows real, efficient London sightseeing during your layover.

Heathrow opened on 25 March 1946 and began commercial operations on 31 May 1946 — though "opened" is generous, since the airport had no permanent buildings at the time. Its first "terminals" were literally repurposed military tents set up along the Bath Road, and in that first year just 63,000 passengers passed through them.

It wasn't called Heathrow at first either — it operated as "London Airport" and was only officially renamed Heathrow Airport in the last week of September 1966. Permanent terminals arrived gradually after that: Terminal 2 in 1962, Terminal 1 in 1968, Terminal 3 in 1970, Terminal 4 in 1986, and Terminal 5 as recently as 2008.

A genuine 5.5-hour window, starting right from the terminal, is enough to reach central London, see a focused set of real sights, and get back with margin to spare — which is the actual point of a layover tour built around a fixed, realistic block of time rather than an open-ended one.
