Bourton-on-the-Water, often nicknamed the "Venice of the Cotswolds," is split by the shallow River Windrush and crossed by five low stone footbridges — a layout people have lived alongside since Neolithic times, long before the honey-stone cottages that line it today. Only around 3,500 people actually live here, yet the village draws roughly 300,000 visitors a year, and it's home to the only Grade II-listed model village in the country, a one-ninth-scale replica built in the 1930s.
