Westminster's underground bunker complex wasn't a single room — it was a working seat of government hidden beneath the city, and the real Cabinet made use of it 115 times across the war, meeting there especially during the Blitz bombing of 1940-41 and again during the V-weapon attacks of 1944-45. The final wartime Cabinet meeting held underground took place on 28 March 1945.
Beyond the Cabinet Room itself, the bunker held genuinely dense infrastructure for its time — a Map Room staffed continuously by officers from all three armed services, communication links reaching commanders and allies around the world, and living quarters for the staff who, during the worst bombing raids, sometimes didn't surface for days.
This tour focuses specifically on that underground infrastructure — the actual rooms and systems that let a government keep functioning through sustained bombing — rather than just Churchill's own personal story, giving a fuller picture of wartime London's real command structure.
