Beyond the Beatles, this route reaches into corners of London's music history that are easy to miss without a guide. Jimi Hendrix lived in the top-floor flat at 23 Brook Street from 1968 to 1969, which he once called 'the only home I ever had' — and in a coincidence he reportedly found delightful, the composer George Frideric Handel had lived next door at No. 25 more than two centuries earlier, from around 1723 until his death. Both buildings now carry English Heritage blue plaques, and the flat opened to the public as a museum in 2016 after a £2.4 million restoration.

Denmark Street, London's answer to Tin Pan Alley, is another real stop worth the detour: laid out in 1687, it became the city's music-publishing hub from 1911 onward, and by the 1960s its guitar shops and tiny studios had drawn in the Rolling Stones (who recorded at No. 4's Regent Sound Studio), the Kinks, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and David Bowie, who reportedly spent so much time at a café on the street that he practically lived there.
