Because this tour builds its route around your group's own interests, it's worth knowing what's actually on offer if Buckingham Palace makes the cut: the Changing of the Guard outside it is a real, free ceremony, not a tourist re-enactment. Around 11am (daily in summer, alternate days in winter), the New Guard — infantry soldiers in scarlet tunics and the famous bearskin caps — parades along the Mall to the palace and formally takes over sentry duty from the Old Guard, while a military band plays a mix of traditional marches and, these days, often a pop song or two. The whole changeover takes about 45 minutes.
If your group's interests run elsewhere, a personalized route means your driver can swap that in for more time at a market, a specific neighbourhood, or a landmark that actually matters to you rather than a fixed checklist everyone else sees too — one of the real practical advantages of a private tour over a scheduled group departure.
