The tour's first stop is Lima's colonial-era historic center, built around the Plaza Mayor that Francisco Pizarro laid out when he founded the city on January 18, 1535. The plaza and its surrounding 16th- to 19th-century buildings — including the Government Palace and the Cathedral — form the core of the Historic Centre of Lima, inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage list in 1991; covering it by private vehicle makes it realistic to see this ground and still reach Huaca Pucllana and Miraflores comfortably within a limited schedule.
From there, the tour swings by a neighborhood artisan market — the kind of stop many fixed-schedule group tours skip in favor of staying strictly on the standard landmark circuit — for a chance to browse real, locally made handicrafts rather than see only the city's monuments.
Huaca Pucllana itself was built by the Lima culture as a ceremonial and administrative center, most likely around the 5th century AD, out of millions of small sun-dried adobe bricks stacked in a distinctive 'bookshelf' pattern — a deliberately uneven, earthquake-resistant technique that has helped the roughly seven-story structure survive repeated seismic activity for around 1,500 years. Around 700 AD, the rise of the Wari culture ended the Lima culture's control of the area, and Huaca Pucllana was later repurposed as an elite Wari burial ground rather than left to collapse — one reason it's still standing, more or less intact, in the middle of one of Lima's most built-up modern neighborhoods. This tour takes in the pyramid from its exterior grounds; a full guided walk up onto and through the structure itself is covered by Voyzo's dedicated Huaca Pucllana tours.
If time allows, the optional stop at Parque Kennedy adds a lighter note: the park has been home to a large population of resident cats since at least the 1980s, when they were introduced to help control a rat problem, and it's now informally known across Lima as 'El Parque de los Gatos' — the Cat Park.
