About This Tour

A private day trip for cruise passengers docked at La Spezia, with stops at Pisa's Piazza dei Miracoli and free time to explore central Florence. Your private driver picks you up directly from your La Spezia Port cruise terminal and takes you to Pisa for a driving tour and a stop at the Piazza dei Miracoli, where you can visit the Leaning Tower, then it's off to the historic center of Florence, where you'll have several hours to explore on your own.

Unlike Livorno's long run as a Medici commercial port, La Spezia's modern identity is a naval one. Little is recorded about the town before 1276, when the Fieschi family sold it to the Republic of Genoa, but its real transformation came much later: Napoleon Bonaparte designated it a military port, and in 1869 construction began on a major naval arsenal that turned La Spezia into one of Italy's most important naval bases, a role the city still holds today at the head of its sheltered natural harbor, the Gulf of Poets.

That same gulf, protected enough to shelter a navy, is also what makes La Spezia a practical gateway to the Cinque Terre and the Ligurian coast just beyond it, a very different stretch of coastline from Pisa's inland plain, which is where this particular itinerary heads instead.

Meeting your private driver directly at the La Spezia cruise terminal and heading first to Pisa's Piazza dei Miracoli, then on to several free hours in central Florence, covers two very different Tuscan identities, a single medieval monument square and a full Renaissance city center, in the time a cruise stop typically allows.
