Gray Monk was founded in 1972 by George and Trudy Heiss, who converted a former orchard into a vineyard. In 1976 they planted what is described as Canada's first Pinot Gris vines, a grape that has since become one of the signature whites of the Okanagan.
Ancient Hill is a small, family-owned estate that opened in 2011 on land first planted to grapes more than 60 years earlier, with a focus on Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir and Baco Noir. Its cooler site brings a different style from the hotter southern valley.
The tour pairs those two stories with a two-hour captained pontoon cruise, so you see the vineyards from both the land side and the water.
