Summerland is a quieter corner of the Okanagan, and its wineries tend to be small, personal and farm-gate in style. Thornhaven Estates, established in 1999, sits on the slopes of Little Giant's Head Mountain and was built in a southwestern Santa Fe style that suits the dry grasses and ponderosa pines around it. Its gravity-fed system moves juice from crush pad to cellar without pumps.
Sage Hills Organic Vineyards and Winery began when its owner bought an abandoned peach, apricot and plum orchard in 2006 and had vines shipped from France the following year. Lunessence, with its eastward patio view toward Okanagan Lake, was organically certified in 2020 and keeps two natural wetlands on the property.
With five estates on the plan, your group tastes at an unrushed pace, and the tour keeps the focus on conversations with the people who actually farm the land.
