A private day trip into B.C.'s first official wine sub-region, the Golden Mile Bench.
A private wine day trip to real, named wineries in Oliver and Osoyoos, home to the Golden Mile Bench, B.C.'s first recognized wine sub-region.
This private day trip heads south from the Okanagan Valley's wine heartland into the Golden Mile Bench, B.C.'s first officially recognized wine sub-region, and the nearby Black Sage Bench, with guided tastings at Hester Creek Estate Winery, Phantom Creek Estates, Maverick Estate Winery, and Black Hills Estate Winery. Given the distance from Kelowna (roughly 1.5-2 hours each way), Voyzo recommends this as a full-day outing, with a private driver and vehicle for the whole route.
A popular starting point — every Voyzo itinerary is fully customizable, so we'll shape the order and stops around your group.
Pickup from Oliver, Osoyoos, Penticton, or Okanagan Falls is included; pickup from Kelowna can be arranged for an added transportation charge given the roughly 1.5-hour distance south.

Oliver sits roughly 6 kilometres from the Golden Mile Bench, a terrace on the west side of the valley between the Okanagan River and the slopes of Mount Kobau. In March 2015 it became the first sub-geographical indication in British Columbia, meaning at least 95 percent of the grapes in a bottle labelled Golden Mile Bench must come from that strip of roughly 1,500 acres. Hester Creek is among the eleven founding wineries named at that time.
This is Canada's hottest, driest wine country, near the edge of the Osoyoos desert, so the red varieties here ripen in a way they simply cannot further north. Black Sage Bench is a well-known name among growers and wine lists, though it is a local label rather than an officially recognized sub-region, and the guide can explain the difference as you taste.
Because the drive from Kelowna is a long one, a private vehicle matters: nobody has to watch the clock or the glass count, and your driver handles the highway in both directions.
