Okanagan Lake runs about 120 kilometres in length and is only 3 to 5 kilometres wide, with a mean depth of around 76 metres and a maximum of roughly 230 metres. That depth keeps the water cool at the bottom even after a hot summer, and it is home to kokanee, rainbow trout, burbot and lake whitefish.
The lake is also the home of Ogopogo, a creature of local legend and long-running folklore. There is no confirmed evidence for it, but your captain will probably have a story or two, and the legend has deep roots in Syilx tradition.
With a small group on a pontoon boat, the pace is yours: drifting past hillside vineyards, anchoring in a bay away from the public beaches, and swimming off the back.
