About This Tour
A private sunset boat ride navigating the Itaya River to its meeting point with the Amazon River, with panoramic views of the Tarapacá Boardwalk and the city of Iquitos from the water as the sun sets over the Loreto region. This boat ride is exclusively for your own group. Few experiences capture Iquitos' relationship with the Amazon as directly as watching the sun go down from the water, with the city's skyline and boardwalk lit up behind you.
Iquitos grew rich during the rubber boom of roughly 1880 to 1914, and the riverfront promenade, the Malecón Tarapacá, was completed in 1905 as the showpiece of that wealth. Seen from the water, the old waterfront gives you a different view than walking it: the long embankment, the faded rubber-era mansions, and the city's reliance on the river.
The Itaya is a tributary that runs along the city and joins the Amazon nearby, which is why a short ride on it can take you out to the big river. The Amazon here is not a single clear-cut channel but a braided, shifting system, and the light at sunset on that much open water is the draw.
Because Iquitos has no road links to the outside world, the river is the highway, so the traffic you pass, from small canoes to cargo boats, is part of what you came to see.
