About This Tour

The arapaima, called paiche in Peru, is possibly the largest freshwater fish in the world, reaching about 3 meters and 200 kilograms. It breathes air through a modified swim bladder and has to surface every few minutes, a habit that makes it conspicuous in still waters.
Peacock bass, known locally as tucunaré, are the sport fish many anglers come for, a powerful ambush predator of Amazon lakes and rivers. Piranhas are the easier, more social target.
San Regis lies just outside Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, whose waters are far from the usual tourist circuit. Fishing rules, including seasons and any catch-and-release requirements, apply to protected species like arapaima, so ask your guide how they are handled on your dates.
