About This Tour

A 5-day private tour that goes beyond Roatán's cruise-port highlights to the island's quieter East End — mangrove tunnels, the fishing village of Jonesville, the canal town of Oak Ridge, snorkeling stops, and a taste of local island cooking. This route stays entirely on Roatán, the largest of Honduras's Bay Islands, with your own private driver-guide and vehicle for the full five days.

Roatán's East End keeps a slower rhythm than the cruise-port west. Oak Ridge, on the south coast, is often called the Venice of Roatán because many of its homes face canals and its fishing fleets are a mainstay of the local economy; the mangrove channels around it can be explored by small boat.

Punta Gorda, on the north shore, is the island's oldest permanent settlement. It was founded shortly after April 1797, when the British left about 3,000 Garifuna deportees from St. Vincent on Roatán after the Second Carib War; many of the Garifuna later moved to the mainland. Descendants still live there, and it remains a center of Garifuna culture.
