About This Tour
A private classic-car sightseeing drive through Old Havana, the Capitolio, and the Malecón at sunset, finishing at Havana's famous open-air Tropicana cabaret show. An evening private tour combining a classic-convertible sightseeing drive with a night out at the Tropicana, Havana's famous open-air cabaret — this operator's own description explicitly markets itself as OFAC-compliant, 'Support for the Cuban People' private sightseeing, which is one of the US Treasury's authorized categories for American travel to Cuba.
The Tropicana opened on 30 December 1939 at Villa Mina in Marianao, set in a tropical garden of some 36,000 square metres. It grew from an earlier nightclub called the Edén Concert, run by impresario Víctor de Correa.
Its golden age came in the 1950s. Architect Max Borges Recio designed the Arcos de Cristal hall in 1951, a series of concrete vaults facing the stage, and choreographer Roderico Rodney Neyra staged the elaborate revues after Martín Fox took over in 1950. The architects' association awarded the expansion a gold medal in 1953.
The evening drive beforehand, past the Capitolio and along the Malecón at sunset, sets the scene for a night that blends old-school glamour with Cuban music.
