About This Tour
A private guide and driver take you through real cigar rolling, an aged-rum tasting, and the streets of Old Havana in a classic car, at your own pace. A private, guide-led afternoon built around Cuba's two most famous exports — real hand-rolled Habanos and aged Cuban rum — with a drive through Old Havana in a classic car and a stop at a local bar tucked into greenery outside the city center.
Cuban cigars are made entirely by hand. Skilled rollers, called torcedores or torcedoras, can assemble somewhere between about 60 and 150 cigars a day depending on size and complexity. In many Havana factories a lector, or reader, has traditionally read newspapers or novels aloud to the rollers, a custom dating back to the 1860s that also helped spread political ideas through the tobacco floors.
Cuban rum has its own craft heritage. Sugar cane was introduced to the Caribbean in the late 15th century, and quality improved in the 1800s with copper stills and the first deliberate ageing of rum, credited to Pedro Diago, sometimes called the father of Cuban rum. Tasting several ages side by side is the clearest way to understand how time in the barrel changes a spirit.
Between tastings, a classic-car drive through Old Havana ties the two products back to the city that made them famous.
