About This Tour
An 8-hour private tour led by a certified local host through the Cabañas Museum and the historic Nueve Esquinas (Nine Corners) district, with a curated tasting of birria, tortas ahogadas, and more. The Hospicio Cabañas begins this day. It was founded in 1805 by Bishop Juan Cruz Ruiz de Cabañas and designed by Manuel Tolsá as a refuge for orphans, the elderly and the disabled. UNESCO listed it as a World Heritage Site in 1997.
Its great chapel carries the murals José Clemente Orozco painted between 1937 and 1939, widely counted among the masterpieces of Mexican muralism. Seeing them with a guide turns the building from a museum stop into the opening chapter of the day.
From there the tour moves to the Nueve Esquinas district and a tasting built around Jalisco staples. Pair the art with the food and the logic of the day becomes clear: this is a city that takes both its public paintings and its lunch seriously.
