Dawn is widely considered the most productive wildlife window in the park because many large mammals feed in the cool early hours before retreating from daytime heat and traffic. Moose often browse willows at water's edge, and elk graze the sagebrush flats near dawn and dusk.
Grand Teton is home year-round to moose, bison, elk, bears, pronghorn and eagles. Visitors are required to stay at least 100 yards from bears and wolves and 25 yards from other wildlife, which is why binoculars and a spotting scope matter so much on a safari.
Bears are present in the valley, and a guide's experience with how they behave is a real safety advantage. Sightings of any species cannot be promised, but a patient early start gives the best realistic chance.
