In winter most Glacier roads are closed to vehicles and become routes for snowshoes and skis. The Park Service plows the west side of Going-to-the-Sun Road only as far as Lake McDonald Lodge, about 11 miles from West Glacier, and the unplowed section beyond is a popular winter route.
Several trails around Apgar Village are open for snowshoeing in winter. The park also runs ranger-led snowshoe walks on winter weekends from the Apgar Visitor Center, though your private day is separate from those scheduled walks.
Winter conditions change quickly, so your guide chooses the route on the day. Dress for cold; ask us about gear.
