Wild Goose Island on St. Mary Lake rises only about 14 feet from the water, yet it is one of the most photographed spots along Going-to-the-Sun Road, framed by mountains on every side.
Polebridge, up the North Fork, is a small community whose Polebridge Mercantile has operated since 1914, and the town was named in 1920 for a log bridge. Hungry Horse Dam, completed in 1953, rounds out the west side.
Logan Pass, at 6,646 feet, is the Sun Road's high point on the Continental Divide. The road is seasonal, so which stops are open depends on the date.
