Going-to-the-Sun Road took from 1921 to 1932 to build, was dedicated in July 1933, and is about 50 miles long. It crosses the Continental Divide at Logan Pass, 6,646 feet, and is a National Historic Landmark and a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
The ride exists because of snow. Each spring crews plow the road, starting around mid-April, and bicycles can use the cleared stretches before the road opens to vehicles. How far you can ride depends on where the plows are working and on avalanche closures, so the exact route is set by conditions.
E-bikes help with the long climb, and travelling without cars lets you hear the park as well as see it.
