About This Tour
A private tour that skips the standard sightseeing script, led by a host who knows the city's secret spots and insider tips. See a side of Florence that's usually reserved for locals on a private tour that covers highlights and hidden gems, with a host who knows where to find secret spots and provides insider tips.
One building most visitors walk straight past without a second glance is Orsanmichele, a block from the Duomo: built in 1337 as a grain market, it was later converted into a guild church, and from the early 15th century Florence's powerful trade guilds were required to fill the niches around its exterior with statues of their own patron saints or forfeit the right to the space entirely.
Several of those niche statues, including a St. Mark, a St. George, and a gilded bronze St. Louis of Toulouse completed around 1423-1425, were carved by Donatello — meaning some of the earliest and most historically important free-standing sculptures of the Renaissance are still sitting, largely overlooked, on the exact building they were made for rather than behind glass in a museum.
That's the kind of stop a host who actually lives in Florence tends to build into a walk: not instead of the major landmarks, but alongside them, timed for whichever moment the bigger piazzas happen to be at their most crowded.
