Edmonton to Jasper is about 366 kilometres along Highway 16 and normally takes around four hours, which is why a two-day format makes sense: the first day arrives in time for the lakes, the second leaves for the return drive.

Jasper National Park was established as a forest park in 1907 and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. The 2024 wildfire damaged parts of the townsite and surrounding area, and the community has been rebuilding, so it is worth checking current conditions on specific trails and facilities before you travel.

The optional Jasper SkyTram carries passengers up Whistlers Mountain on a seven-minute narrated ride and reopened after surviving the fire; it operates seasonally.
