About This Tour

A private introductory walking tour covering Georgian buildings, the River Liffey, and Temple Bar, with Viking, Norman, and independence-era history woven in. This introductory private walk covers Dublin's Georgian buildings, the Liffey River, and Temple Bar, with your guide covering Viking and Norman history through to the fight for independence.

The Custom House on the Liffey quays is one of Dublin's great Georgian landmarks - a ten-year building project completed in 1791, designed by James Gandon and built on reclaimed marshland from the river itself. Its history took a dramatic turn thirty years later: on 25 May 1921, during the Irish War of Independence, around 120 IRA volunteers seized and burned the building in one of the war's largest single operations, deliberately destroying the British administration's tax and property records housed inside.

That same riverside stretch of Georgian Dublin is part of what this introductory private walk covers, alongside the Liffey itself and Temple Bar, with your guide tracing the city's story from its Viking and Norman foundations all the way through to the fight for independence - a genuinely sweeping first orientation for anyone arriving in Dublin for the first time.
