Christ Church Cathedral has one of the longest continuous histories of any building in Dublin: a wooden church first raised here around 1030 under the Viking king Sitric Silkenbeard, rebuilt as stone in 1172 largely under the Anglo-Norman noble Strongbow, and then rebuilt again almost entirely during a major restoration in the 1870s - meaning most of what visitors actually see today is Victorian, even though the site's history runs back nearly a thousand years earlier.
