Starting at O'Connell Street, this private tour covers Dublin's Northside and Southside, with a coffee stop at what's regarded as the oldest pub in the city.
Starting from O'Connell Street, this walk is built to cover ground most single-neighbourhood tours don't - both the Northside and Southside of the Liffey, rather than picking one and sticking to it. That broader geography is really the point of the 'secrets' framing: it's less about one marquee landmark and more about how the two halves of the city actually fit together.
The coffee stop lands at what's widely regarded as Dublin's oldest pub, The Brazen Head, which claims a continuous history on its Bridge Street site back to 1198 (the current building itself dates to 1754, with the earliest confirmed licence to sell ale recorded in 1661). It sits almost exactly where Dublin's original Viking settlement began, and its regulars have included Robert Emmet, Daniel O'Connell, Wolfe Tone, and, much later, Michael Collins.
Worth noting honestly: a pub in Athlone, Sean's Bar, has a stronger documented claim to being Ireland's single oldest pub overall, dating back roughly to 900 AD. Within Dublin itself, though, The Brazen Head's claim to the title goes largely unchallenged.
