The longest single stop on this itinerary is Phoenix Park, and for good reason - at 707 hectares, it's the largest enclosed urban park in Europe, roughly twice the size of New York's Central Park. Its 40-minute window covers two real landmarks inside: the Wellington Monument, a 62-metre obelisk honouring the Duke of Wellington that's the largest of its kind in Europe, its bronze plaques cast from cannon captured at Waterloo; and Áras an Uachtaráin, the official residence of the President of Ireland.
Áras an Uachtaráin itself dates to 1754 and spent nearly two centuries as the Viceregal Lodge, the official residence of Britain's Lord Lieutenant in Ireland, before the office passed to the new Irish state in 1922. It's a genuinely active residence today, not a museum piece - though the Office of Public Works does run free, first-come-first-served guided tours most Saturdays.
The rest of the itinerary runs on an unusually precise schedule for a sightseeing tour: 20 minutes at O'Connell Street and the GPO, 15 at St. Patrick's Cathedral, 20 at Dublin Castle, a generous 40 at Temple Bar, 20 at Trinity College, 10 along Grafton Street, and a closing 25 minutes at St. Stephen's Green - all from the comfort of a private minivan rather than on foot.
