Golden is the surprise of the day. Buffalo Bill Cody died in Denver on 10 January 1917, and was buried in an open casket on Lookout Mountain in June 1917 after the frozen ground delayed the burial; some 25,000 people attended. The Pahaska Tepee museum was built in 1921.
Downtown adds civic landmarks. The Colorado State Capitol opened in November 1894, its dome gilded with real gold leaf from 1908, and its fifteenth west step is marked one mile above sea level. Larimer Square, laid out by William Larimer in 1858, is Denver's oldest surviving commercial district. Coors Field opened on 26 April 1995.
The RiNo Art District is covered in murals, many painted during the yearly CRUSH Walls festival, with a food hall at Central Market.
