The waters off Cozumel sit along a real pelagic fishing corridor, with sailfish typically moving through from around January through August, mahi-mahi (dorado) most active from roughly March to August, and wahoo present nearly year-round with a peak stretch from about November through August. Blue and white marlin, tuna, barracuda, and mackerel are also part of the regular mix, depending on the season and conditions on the day — as with any sport fishing outing, nothing is guaranteed, but the variety of species passing through these waters is real and well documented.
Much of that activity is tied to the deep water close by. The Yucatán Channel, the stretch of ocean separating the Yucatán Peninsula from Cuba, plunges to nearly 9,200 feet in places and is a known migration route for marlin, sailfish, and even whales. Closer to shore, the narrower Cozumel Channel — running between the island and the mainland — is itself a regular passage for migrating billfish, which is part of why half-day charters out of Cozumel can reach genuinely productive grounds without a long run offshore.
This charter puts a private boat, captain, and crew to work finding that activity for your group alone, equipped with professional rods, bait, a sonar fishfinder to help locate fish, and the fishing permits required to operate legally in these waters. It's the same rich marine environment — warm, current-fed Caribbean water pressed up against the edge of the Mesoamerican reef system — that also makes Cozumel one of the region's best-known diving destinations, just approached here from the surface instead of below it.
