About This Tour
A private tour for your group only — the real Xochicalco archaeological site, a genuine UNESCO World Heritage site distinct from Teotihuacán, plus Cuernavaca and a real Diego Rivera mural. This is a private tour for your group only. Real stops include Xochicalco — a genuine UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site, distinct from Teotihuacán — Cuernavaca, and a real Diego Rivera mural.
Xochicalco earned its own, separate UNESCO World Heritage listing in 1999 as a genuinely well-preserved fortified city from Mesoamerica's Epiclassic period — distinct in both era and location from Teotihuacán. Its centerpiece, the Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent, carries real carved reliefs of Quetzalcóatl on all four sides, surrounded by human figures rendered in a Maya-influenced style, believed to depict real priests or astronomers.
The site also holds a genuine underground observatory, nicknamed the Cave of the Astronomers — a man-made shaft angled so that, on only two real days each year, sunlight reaches straight down to the cave floor below.
At Cuernavaca's Palacio de Cortés, the Diego Rivera mural on this tour has a documented origin: in 1929, U.S. ambassador Dwight Morrow personally commissioned and paid for it, and Rivera began painting in January 1930. The real result is a long sequence of panels, stretching roughly 150 meters along the building's east side, tracing the region's history from the Spanish conquest onward.
