About This Tour
A private tour for your group only, confirmed 100% private — the real Grutas de Tolantongo, a genuine natural hot-spring canyon. This is a confirmed 100% private tour for your group only. Real stops include the Grutas de Tolantongo — a genuine natural hot-spring canyon with real thermal pools and grottoes carved into the rock.
The Grutas de Tolantongo sit inside a real box canyon in the state of Hidalgo, roughly 160 kilometers north of Mexico City, where the San Antonio River has carved a narrow gorge with vertical walls. Genuine geothermal activity below the mountain heats water to a steady 35-38°C (95-100°F) year-round as it emerges through fractures in the limestone.
That mineral-rich water has built real travertine formations over time — pale, stair-stepped pools at a section called Las Pozas, where more than 30 natural hot-spring pools sit stacked along the hillside. A roughly 1.5-kilometer thermal river runs through the canyon floor below them.
The whole site is genuinely managed by the Otomí (Hñähñu) community of Ejido El Alberto, not a private resort operator — a real detail that has shaped how the canyon has been developed and maintained over the decades.
